Your appearance is one reason. Another is that the gap left by a missing tooth can mean greater strain on the teeth either. A gap can also mean your ‘bite’ is affected, because the teeth next to the space can lean into the gap and alter the way the upper and lower teeth bite together. This can then lead to food getting packed into the gap, which causes both decay and gum disease.
For missing teeth we would recommend either: Dentures, Bridges or Implants
A bridge is usually used when there are fewer teeth to replace or when the missing teeth are only on one side of the mouth. Bridges are usually made of a precious metal base, if it will be on show then porcelain is bonded to the base. They will last for many years and it will improve your bite and appearance.
Using the two teeth next to the gap being filled, a suspended false tooth will fit between two crowns. These crowns will be cemented on to the adjacent teeth ensuring a permenant restoration.
There are different types of bridges available, our dentists will help you decide on which one would be best for you and your individual needs.
